Summertime, Summertime,
Sum, Sum, Summertime . . .
Summertime driving can be very demanding on your vehicle. A
little preventive maintenance can keep your vehicle from getting
hot under it's hood and you from getting hot under the collar.
1. Be sure to check your tire pressures. Low air pressure
causes extra rolling resistance and can cause the tire to overheat
and possibly blow out. Also, under inflation causes you to use
more fuel.
2. Check all of your vehicle's fluid levels regularly.
3. Make sure you have Antifreeze in your cooling system even in
the summer. Antifreeze helps to stop corrosion and lubricates your
water pump.
4. Make sure your Engine and Fuel Injection System are working
at their optimum level. A properly tuned vehicle is more efficient
and uses less fuel.
5. Have the wheel alignment checked. Not only does misalignment
wear out tires prematurely, but also causes your car, truck or SUV
to use more fuel.
6. Check belts and hoses for dry rot, cracking, leaks or other
damage.
7. Check your wiper blades for wear, (Very important during
Summer thunder storms).
8. Don't forget to check the air in your spare tire. If you do
have flat, you don't want to replace it with another flat.
9. Check all of your lights regularly, including brake lights
and turn signals.
10. Don't overfill your gas tank ("Packing" it full
may lead to spillage), plus gas expands in hot weather, which may
cause leakage.
Important!
Always do all service and maintenance according to the
manufacturer's specifications. If you are not experienced or
comfortable doing auto repair, be sure to take your vehicle to a
factory authorized dealer.
